Statistical process control

Statistical process control is the use of statistics to supervise and manage a certain process in order to be sure that it operates to its maximum capability thereby producing results that conform to the required standards.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Statistical process control specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In addition, control limits are horizontal lines that are drawn to scale, a distance of  ±3 standard deviation of the statistics collected from the standard mean on statistical process control charts. Once they are drawn, the charts are used in the detection of signs that show that a given process is not in control as it ought to be. By detecting such errors, one maybe able to know which projects are not behaving as predicted (Hogg, 2005). The signals used in the process control are known points which are outside the control limits. In projects that have statistics that are distributed normally, the area that is bracketed by the control limits will contain 99.72% of all the plotted points on a given chart if the process is in statistical control and does not change from that position. On the other hand, a false-detection rate will normally be at a 0.28% rate. The data used in the statistics is usually collected from random data sources from different groups of a given product; this is known as stratified sampling. The random data is collected at the different stages in production process by use of inspection techniques. Once the data has been collected, the information is transferred to a control chart where it is used in plotting the data points (Stamatis, 2002). In addition, one has to make a distribution chart which will be used to group the collected data together. The variable data is the taken into sample sizes of 2 to 5 thereby enabling the data to have a specific range, known as R-Bar, and a mean known as, X-Bar.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? The X-Bar is got from a summation of the total measurements and dividing it by the number of the total sub-groups. When collecting the data sample, one has to be sure that the data represents the population size hence making the statistics more credible. Therefore, if we were to take a sample size of 60, it would be divided into two sub groups of 30 observations and 6 sub groups of 10 observations. The observations are important since they provide a reference for use in the creation of the factor table used in determining the control limits. After determining the control limits we add 1 sample size of the number of the sample sizes observations we have at hand. When making the control charts one should use the X-Bar and Range charts to determine the upper and lower control limits which normally ran ge between  ±3 from the double X-bar. These control limits can be got from the chart as follows (Oakland, 2008). Seasonal factors usually affect the results from the analysis of any data collected. Since the data is seasonal, it is not permanent and thus prone to changes. The change in factors could be due to seasonal adjustments in the environment for example, price changes due to holidays. Thus, once the changes have taken place, the data sample changes resulting in a different result and a shift in the control limits. In addition there is an effect known as, trend shift. This is change in data sample resulting in having inaccurate adjustments of the control limits since the data collected is distorted.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Statistical process control specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Trend shifts normally occur when a frequent occurring event suddenly starts to occur sporadically at irregula r occurrences thereby changing the pattern of data samples (Doty, 1996). Confidence intervals are the given analysis used to determine the reliability of given statistics. The confidence interval is got from the values found between the upper control limit and the lower control limit. This range represents the mean of the sampled population which is normally ascertained initially. After that the degree of the expected confidence interval is specified and is normally, 1- alpha. 1 – Alpha represents the accepted risk of data being wrong or inaccurate. The population standard deviation, sigma is known as the rarety. In determining the confidence levels, if the variance of a given population sample is not known, the confidence level can be determined by use of t-distribution as follows, where t= t value with n-1 degrees, where the sample is 1-sample or n1 + n2 – 2 degrees of freedom in a 2-sample test. The advantage of using t- distribution instead of other distributions f ormulae for example, z- distribution is that the data used is assumed to have come from a population which is distributed normally unlike in the z-distribution, where the data used is not (Black, 2009). Process improvement is the reduction of variations of the mean thus making the data reliable in the statistics. Process improvement can be done by statistical process control whereby, the user of the data can supervise, make analysis and control the process freely thereby ensuring that the data collected is very accurate and not interrupted by other factors in the course of the process. However not all data will respond in the desired way thus one has to take into account data that is inconsistent with the rest. These type of data is referred as tolerances and is used in judging if a product is acceptable or not thus, by so doing the process incorporates the flexible manufacturing system.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Fundamental Human Experience Essay Example

Fundamental Human Experience Essay Example Fundamental Human Experience Essay Fundamental Human Experience Essay 1) What fundamental human experience is being dealt with in this story The fundamental human experience that is being dealt with in the story 1955 is that Traynor could or would attain happiness through means of material possession and the accumulation of wealth. We see this idea develop throughout the story. In 1956 we find out that the song purchased from Gracie Mae Still for a mere $500.00 is now being performed on national television. Little mama, little mama, thereâ„ ¢s a white man on television singing one of your songs! Turn on channel 5. Lord, if it wasnâ„ ¢t Traynor (Walker479). Traynor later returns to Gracie Mae and the first thing she notices is that Traynor seemed to be aging by the minute (480). Walker then proceeds to further describe Traynorâ„ ¢s exhaustion at the Mae house by detailing his posture. His head was pitched forward over his lap, his hands holding his glass and his elbows on his knees (480). The description of how tired and unhealthy Traynor seems is immediately followed by Traynor telling Gracie Mae how much money h e is accumulating off of her song. Iâ„ ¢ve sung it and sung it, and Iâ„ ¢m making forty thousand a day offa it, and you know what, I donâ„ ¢t have the faintest notion what that song means (480). Traynors condition worsens as time goes on and as he becomes wealthier. Like Traynor is regressing in life, rather than progressing. Which one could find odd being that Traynor is surrounded by so much success and wealth. This regression is further substantiated in Gracie Maeâ„ ¢s description of Traynor on one of his later visits. I had been mad, but suddenly I calmed down. Traynor was talking very dreamily. It was dark but seems I could tell his eyeâ„ ¢s werenâ„ ¢t right. It was like something was sitting there talking to me but not necessarily with a person behind it (483). Traynors character consistently degenerates as his wealth accumulates. Not once to appear happy or satisfied. He even admits to hardly knowing his own wife, even most of the people around him. : 2) What insight into the human condition does this story present The insight into the human condition that this story presents is one of holding material possessions and wealth as equal to oneâ„ ¢s self worth and happiness. We see this throughout the story as Traynor constantly gives gifts to Gracie Mae. Nice cars, money, a chance to sing on stage, even a massive house. But not quite as big as his. Gracie refuses some of his gifts saying I donâ„ ¢t need this also always implying that she is content with what she has. This is an idea that Traynor fails to grasp. Another more vague insight into the human condition is how human fallacy does not discriminate between rich and poor. Most of the novel is dedicated to showing how wealth does not equate to happiness through Traynorâ„ ¢s experiences. Gracie lives a simpler, less wealthy life but is content. Walker portrays Gracie as wise and more in touch with what really matters in life when she speaks words of wisdom like you canâ„ ¢t sleep through life if you wants to live it (488). And how s he refuses gifts because she is content with what she has. However nearing the end of the short story we learn that Gracie Mae has also been suffering at the hands of her own perception of herself. She describes to us that fat is the hurt I donâ„ ¢t admit, not even to myself, and that I been trying to burry it since the day I was born (488). The words spoken by Gracie Mae show that rich or poor being human is being human and along with that comes all of the conditions that all of us must live with.

Basic Hydraulic Systems

Basic Hydraulic Systems Every hydraulic system has a minimum number of basic components regardless of its design and function. The fundamental components of the hydraulic system include pump, reservoir, directional valve, check valve, pressure relieve valve, selector valve, actuator, and filter. An open center system has fluid flowing, with any pressure in the system when the actuating mechanisms are idle. The pump disperses the fluid from the reservoir through the selector valves and return to the reservoir. The open center system may engage a several subsystems, with a selector valve for every subsystem. The selector valve of the open center system is connected in series with each other. In this arrangement, the system pressure line will go through each selector valve. The fluid is allowed free passage through the selector valve and return to the reservoir until one of the selector valves is ready to operate a mechanism. When one of the selector valves is set to operate an actuating device, fluid is flowing from the pump through one of the working line to the actuator. When the selector valve is set in this position, the fluid flow to the reservoir is blocked. The system overcome the resistance by using the pressure build up in it and move the piston of the actuation cylinder, fluid from the opposite end of the actuator will returns to the selector valve and return to the reservoir. The operation of the system after actuation of the component will depends on the type of the selector valve that has been used. Many types of selector are used together with the open center system. One of the types is both manually engaged and manually disengaged. The valve is manually moved to an operating position. Then, the actuating mechanism reaches the end of the operating cycle, and the output of the pump continue until the pressure is relieves by the system relief valve. The relief valve dismount and allows the fl uid to return to the reservoir. The system pressure remains at the relief valve set pressure until the selector valve is returned manually to the neutral position. It reopens the open center flow and let the system pressure to drop to line resistance pressure.

MKTG 3000 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

MKTG 3000 - Essay Example The public who attracted towards this ad will take more time in analyzing the features of this advertisement. The theme of this ad is that the two pieces of Bounty chocolate available in the chocolate packet displayed in the picture are not mere chocolates, but â€Å"Two pieces of paradiseâ€Å" just like the two thighs of the female model represented in the advertisement. The ad tried to keep consistency in its theme as the model has wore only two pieces of dress and the entire picture consists consist of only two other objects; a coconut tree and a beach. The coconut tree moving in the wind and the beach at the backdrop are giving more pleasant feelings to the viewers of this advertisement. This advertisement ask the readers to enjoy the taste of the Bounty chocolate just like they are enjoying the thighs of the female model presented in the advertisement. The above advertisement clearly shows that how fierce is the competition in the food market. The advertisers are not taking any ethical means while preparing their advertisements. Their intention is only to catch the attention of the public and for that purpose they are ready to go up to any extent. I don’t think the above advertisement may succeed in increasing the sales of the Bounty chocolate beyond certain limits. Current consumers are more aware of the quality of the goods they are purchasing rather than the attractiveness of the advertisement. At the same time, because of the variety displayed, the above advertisement may catch the attention of the teenagers. The intention of the advertiser might be the same also. The intrusion of television and internet like medias decreased the demand of magazine and journal like print medias. People are spending less time for reading printed articles nowadays and therefore printed ads are not reaching the eyes of the public adequately. If the printed ads are not much good in catching the attention of

How precious metals relate to the economy Research Paper

How precious metals relate to the economy - Research Paper Example While gold remains the most popular investment vehicle for investors, silver, platinum, and palladium continue to hold strong interest. This research paper focuses on how these precious metals relate to the American economy and examines the price of the dollar in relation to these metals. This essay describes the history of the Western economy and banking structure, that was originally linked to gold through the gold standard. At a time in history all currency produced was held to a standard reserve of gold in the country’s central bank. However, recent decades have gradually witnessed a shift from this economic structure. Today precious metals operate in large degree like a currency, as they are subject to market inflations and deflations. There are many motivations for the purchase or investment in precious metals. In this context of understanding, this research paper reveales that precious metals largely function as a hedge for investors against fiat currency and volatile markets. In addition the nature of the historic relation between gold and currency is examined in terms of the gold standard. It’s noted that supporters argue going off the gold standards creates greater government volatility, while detractors argue that going off the gold standard creates the potential for a welfare state. Ultimately, it’s clear that both historically and in the contemporary environment precious metals and the economy are greatly intertwined.

Comparing Love and Sports in A Separate Peace and Goodbye, Columbus Ess

Love and Sports in A Separate Peace and Goodbye, Columbus      Ã‚  Ã‚   There is a substantial difference in the way Goodbye, Columbus and A Separate Peace, both published in 1959, address the theme of sex; what there is galore in Philip Roth's novel, is conspicuously absent in the work of John Knowles. Apparently, sexuality was still a taboo at the time, and both books treat it as such: e.g., the discovery that their daughter is no longer a virgo intacta topples the world of the older Patimkins in Goodbye, Columbus (at least the father's sentiment seems to be genuine; whether "Mother Patimkin's" shock and subsequent outburst of indignation are equally unfeigned can be argued). Still, Roth's novel is fairly realistic in explicating sexuality as a driving motif behind its characters' actions, which cannot be said about A Separate Peace. Indeed, sex is a nonentity in the novel of John Knowles; the fact could have been explained by the strict discipline of the Devon prep school, had it not been for The Catcher in the Rye--the book that shows what a significant part of prep school life sex, indeed, was. There is only a few years' interval between the time of the action of these two novels--definitely not enough for morals to loosen so dramatically. One can but conclude that even for a book to have been published in 1959 A Separate Peace is remarkably chaste.    There is only one suggestive reference in the novel of John Knowles--the episode when Finny ignores Gene's warning that wearing a pink should could make him look like a fairy. Of course, the relationship between Finny and Gene itself can be interpreted askance: in his study on A Separate Peace Hallman Bryant draws attention to the analysis of George-M... ...elationship of Brenda and Neil is smothered by the profoundest egotism reflected in their preoccupation with the material aspects of being.    It would be interesting to see what A Separate Peace would look like if the physical aspect of love in it was not superseded by sports. The dynamics of the character suggests that Finny, infinitely free as he is, knowing no fear, and majestically comfortable with breaking the rules, would be more than likely to have transgressed by the age of seventeen--out of sheer curiosity and goodness, in a Tom Jones way.    Works cited Bryant, Hallman. Internet Marketing Strategies of Hsbc

In line with HSBC’s aim for development with global focus, the company was able to adopt a strategy, which enhances its technology development through information systems operations. This strategy was able to increase staff retention rates, and decrease staff turnover, which brings greater continuity and efficiency to the company’s projects (Annesley 2006). Moreover, in terms of internet communications, HSBC has a single global center of excellence for e-commerce IT, made up of collocated businesses and staff, distributed in international offices, such as in New Jersey, Chicago, Canada, Hong Kong and London. In accordance to this, HSBC was also able to implement and introduce another feature of HSBC. com, the HSBCnet, which is its developed key global platform, designed for commercial customers in other countries. HSBCnet includes services for global markets, global cash management and investment banking that are being used regularly by corporate customers. Moreover, as an response to the need of security, the company has developed a second-generation internet technologies, exposing customers to intelligent, personalized content and better targeted marketing, and this feature allows the customers to save time, avoid repetition of tasks by pre-filling in application forms, to come back to a product offer, and get to the end of an application process (Annesley 2006). Furthermore, the company has also developed the successful credit card authorization and accounting platform, which consists of linked applications, such as credit assessment, risk-based pricing, card ordering and transaction processing and reporting (Annesley 2006). These strategies enabled HSBC to gain competitive advantage over their competitors, by implementing an effective and efficient Internet-based information system. These strategies become relevant to the problems of Nokia because like HSBC, they can also develop the same strategies and use them for their own advantage
